iTheme : Sublime Lock HD (Lockscreen)

Sublime Lock HD is a Lockscreen mod by Andy Lockett.

A highly optimised, customisable, retina-ready lockscreen which displays the time, date, weather and latest tweet! Customise your lockscreen via Safari without the need to re-spring; choose your theme from 6 pre-made themes, or use your own background – light or dark!

Change your location, change who you follow on Twitter, change update times and more! Advanced caching system prevents re-fetching of data upon re-locking (which most lockscreens fail to do) – potentially saving MB’s of data per month!
Compatible with retina and non-retina iPhones/iPods.

F.lux : Adjusting iPhone’s Brightness To Match Your Surrounding

F.lux is a new Cydia tweak which enables you to set your iPhone’s brightness to match your surrounding light settings. Ever been in a situation where your iPhone seems to emit a certain glare that is so unpleasant for your eyes? With F.lux, you can select the type of lighting in your surrounding at night and forget about it as F.lux will initiate its settings automatically after you set the time and lighting for each day.

Example : Every evening F.lux will warm up the color of your screen while at dawn it will set the colors to daylight colors.

Lets start getting the correct color balance :

  1. Open up Cydia, and search for [F.lux]
  2. Install and reboot
  3. Open [Settings] > [F.lux] > Choose your lighting type and transition speed
  4. Play around with each lighting type to select your preferable settings.
  5. You need to switch on [Location Services] in order to use F.lux
  6. Also a minor warning ….. it might drain your battery a little.

Make Cydia Load Faster

You can make Cydia load faster by bypassing categories that you don’t need. For me, I don’t use WinterBoard, therefore I can disable all the “Theme” in the [Sections] tab.

Here is how to do it :

  1. Open up Cydia
  2. Go to [Sections] at the bottom of your screen.
  3. Click [Edit] at the top right corner
  4. Now you can disable any categories that you do not use.
  5. This will make your Cydia load faster without loading the items you just disabled.

RetinaPad : Enable iPhone Retina HD Display Compatibility On iPad

I can’t believe I didn’t mention this must-have application in all my previous posts …. I’m human afterall eh?

RetinaPad enables the iPad to display iPhone applications in HD. No more pixilated graphics when using iPhone apps on your iPad.This app is similar with FullForce but just a bit more stable. So go ahead and uninstall FullForce

Retina Now :

  1. Only available on jailbroken iPads
  2. Go to Cydia > Search > RetinaPad
  3. Install and Reboot
  4. You can access RetinaPad from your iOS Settings
  5. Enable the apps you want to run in RetinaPad from there

RetinaPad will not work if the app you choosen were enabled both in FullForce and RetinaPad.

Cleaning Up Your iOS

Another reason why your iOS is running slow is that craps are being stored on your device over time. You can make your device run faster by :

Method 1 :

  1. From your device, go to Settings > Safari > [Clear History] / [Clear Cookies] / [Clear Cache]

Method 2 :

  1. Download and install [CleanUp] from Cydia
  2. Pretty easy to use, after installation, an icon will be shown at your SpringBoard
  3. Opening it and press Clean Up …. it will respring when done

Method 3 :

  1. Go to Cydia and install [Clean Up Crap]
  2. No icons will be installed on your SpringBoard
  3. Instead you need to go into your MobileTerminal > Su Root > [your su root password] > then just type cuc
  4. Thats all

Verdict : Method 2 is better than method 1, whereas Method 3 and 2 are roughly the same

Battery Drain : What Causes It?

This post is iDevice related only. And also from my personal view and experience.

There are a few ways to tackle this problem, some easy methods and some which only advanced users can do. So I’m just gonna go with the easy method for now.

iOS Related

Disable Ping

  1. Go to Settings > General > Restrictions > Enable Restrictions (Enter 4 digit passcode of choice)
  2. Turn [Ping] OFF

Reset Network Settings

  1. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
  2. Do not reset other settings.

Disable Notifications

  1. Disable Notifications that you do not need
  2. This will minimize the push notifications on your iDevice
  3. Go to Settings > Notifications > Select which app that you don’t need push notifications.

Disable Mail Push Notifications

  1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data > Push [OFF]
  2. Also select [Manually] for the Fetch Schedule

Location Services

  1. Disable [Location Services] if you don’t need to use it
  2. Switch it [ON] only when necessary.
  3. Be warned, switching off Location Services will render your Find My iPhone app useless and will be unable to locate your device if it is lost.

Application Related

  1. TalkBox is one of the major battery drainer in my opinion
  2. GPS applications apps is another battery killer, you’ll need a car power adapter when using GPS to navigate while driving

Kill All Running Apps

  1. Kill all running background apps
  2. Double click your home button to view all running apps under your dock
  3. You can also use [Remove Background] to kill all running apps with 1 single gesture.

Reboot Regularly

  1. Reboot your device regularly → Power OFF and Power ON back again
  2. This will flush out background “unseen” services that are still running.
  3. Apply this method when you feel your iDevice is acting sluggish and feels hot

Any other tips that I missed? Please do let me know ….. I’m not a genius …
